The public transport network delivers strategically vital links of high importance to the economic well being of the country. Disruption across these networks has an impact that can very quickly result in huge cost being amassed. The security of these very open transport networks has previously been overshadowed by other largely transnational security concerns, resulting in a capability deficit that directly challenges our national security.
Transport Security Expo has examined the individual and associated issues faced in the public transport arena many times over the past decade. This entirely new conference brings train, tram, underground, coach and bus operators from across the public transport arena together with government officials, the security services and law enforcement personnel for the first time, in a search for operationally viable solutions to the security conundrum.
Conference Programme
Securing & Protecting Public Transport is a two-day conference designed to assess the extent of the threat from terrorism, criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. Comprising of some twenty-five principal sessions supported by extensive roundtable discussions and debates, the headline themes this year include the following:
- Assessing the threat from terrorism
- Addressing the extent of threats from chemical, radiological and explosive weapons
- Protecting major transit hubs & crowded places
- Lessons from 2012
- The insider threat
- Emergency response preparedness and crisis management
- Passenger and baggage security
- Securing inland-freight
- Preventing infrastructure theft and serious crime
- Crime, vandalism and anti-social behaviour reduction
- Innovation & technology for securing & protecting public transport
- Safety strategies and partnerships
- Public transport security in the future
This operationally critical forum acknowledges that the industry faces a significant challenge from organised and opportunistic crime across the respective networks as well as an effective crisis management and emergency response deficit. These two key issues will form the subject matter for two open forum live debates as follows:
- Cable Theft - Live Debate
- Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness - Live Debate
Securing & Protecting Public Transport is a conference borne from extensive industry outreach revealing an urgent need to foster much greater cooperation, in addressing security issues amongst the diverse number of stakeholders operating our strategically critical public transport networks.
